New! Almond Flour, Pili Nuts, Organic California Date Sugar, Alive Almond Flour is Back
Watch Audrey Make Raw Croutons from Alive Almond Flour
These nuts have a flavor unlike any other nut we've seen. Grown on a family farm in accordance with organic standards. However they have not as yet received organic certification.
Try putting them in your blender, maybe adding a small amount of oil and coconut sugar; blend into a sensational nut butter.
Our alive, organic date sugar is a made from California grown Deglet Noor dates.
High in fiber, B-vitamins, and minerals like calcium, iron, magnesium, it is an excellent alternative to sugar. It can be substituted, cup for cup or less, for granulated and brown sugar and will lend a rich sweetness to recipes including baked goods and breakfast cereals. However, it does not dissolve in liquids or melt. Keep refrigerated or store in a jar in a cool, dry, dark place for up to a year.
August Victory Garden Sale 10% off, Additional 20% discount for 3 jars
[or any multiple]
Our Living Tree Alive, Organic Sweet Almond Oil is made from California almonds grown by family farmers.
Sweet Almond Oil has long been known as being beneficial for health and beauty.
It is rich in Linoleic Acid (up to 28%!). Linoleic Acid is an essential Omega-6 fatty acid, which has been shown to slow water loss from the outermost layer of the skin, making it an excellent moisturizer. Additionally, it is rich in naturally occurring Vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, and is high in mono and polyunsaturated fatty acids, proteins, minerals, and glycosides. The result is a unique oil that leaves skin feeling healthy protected and nourished.
A taste that will bring you back to a sun-filled world of times long past. Rich and flavorful.
"This nut butter is like a revelation! I have eaten macadamia butter before and loved it, but all other macadamia butters pale in comparison to the complex and subtle flavors of the one made by Living Tree. First, the texture is more like a cream than a spread - smooth, thick, and amazingly light. And since there is no added oil or salt, the true flavor of the nut - complexly sweet and even milky - shines through."
This amber agave has a rich and complex flavor.
Organic Agave Nectar is an exciting new sweetener naturally extracted from the pineapple-shaped core of the Americana Agave (a cactus-like plant native to Mexico, best known for its use in making tequila). Organic Agave Nectar dissolves easily and the taste is natural. Processed at 118 degrees Fahrenheit.
Our rich and exotic Brazil nuts will amaze you with their power-packed nutrients. The Brazil nut is the most potent known food source of Selenium, an immensely beneficial mineral found in the soil. Eating only one to two Brazil nuts per day can provide all of the selenium one needs!
Starting with our alive, organic and wildcrafted Brazil nuts, we have added sesame seeds, our unique sesame oil, Brazilian honey and a dash of Royal Himalayan Pink Crystal Salt.
Our alive cacao butter is of outstanding quality, It comes from the island of Bali. Cacao Butter is a key ingredient in making fine chocolate and confections of all sorts. Grate and add to melted cacao paste along with a sweetener such as honey, agave or palm nectar crystals to make a delightful chocolate. Add chopped raisins and dates, maybe chopped mangoes and persimmons too. Pour mixture onto a baking sheet and allow to harden in you refrigerator.
It also makes a great skin care product. Try adding one part grated cacao butter to three parts melted coconut oil. Let it solidify in a wide mouthed jar -- it is great for the skin and will impart an exotic fragrance.
With Heart n' Sol we tip our hat to our clients who prefer not to have chocolate. We've substituted carob. Here is a delightful Halva made from organic almonds, cashews, walnuts, sesame seeds, sundried dates, carob, mesquite, sundried raisins, Brazilian honey, our Alive Olive Oil, coconut oil, vanilla and a dash of Himalayan Pink Crystal salt. It is nourishing and healthful. The walnut boosts omega 3 essential fatty acids and adds omega 6 essential fatty acids, making this Halva nutritious!
Our alive coconut butter is created from alive coconut. Savor its fragrance. Ponder its texture.
"Coconut products modulate the thyroid. They help us produce sex hormones, which we know now are actually health hormones...protective effect on our nervous system. The best form of that is the coconut cream... if we can do 2 to 4 tablespoons of that a day thats very important and helpful to drive off the radiation from our thyroid..gets the thyroid functioning a little bit more effectively...Tastes absolutely delicious and something you are going to want even more tablespoons of a day."
For your delight we have slowly sliced organic walnuts into a butter that goes so well on apple slices and also celery and carrot sticks. Try adding chopped raisins and honey! What hors d'oeuvres you'll make!
Walnuts are a good source of omega-3 essential fatty acids, a special type of protective fat the body cannot manufacture. Walnuts provide protein and phosphorus as well as vitamins B and D. We've added a dash of Royal Himalayan Pink Crystal Salt.
The pecan was the food of Native Americans for millennia. One of the most nutritious of nuts. Pecans are loaded with heart-healthy unsaturated fats and recently published studies show that pecan consumption can help lower cholesterol.
Nowadays a substantial amount of organic pecans come from Peru. Ours are grown in Texas.
Directions:
Dry kale and tear into mid-sized pieces, making sure to discard any rib pieces as they become tough in dehydrating.
Set kale aside.
In a glass or stainless steel bowl combine the agave, coconut oil, tahini. salt, vanilla and cacao, using a wire whisk.
Line dehydrator screens with parchment paper. Rub cacao mixture into kale and place on parchment. Sprinkle sesame seeds.
You will likely need 2 trays/screens. Dry 1.5 hours at 145 degrees, then lower to 115 and dry 4-5 hours. Remove the kale from the parchment and turn onto screens. Continue drying until brittle – note that with the coconut oil and tahini they may not get completely dry but they still taste great.
These are excellent stored in the freezer, which will actually make them drier and more brittle!
Enjoy!!!!
We will be selling these soon as part of our Delicious Nutritious Super-Snacks line.
Meet Shierly Our Newest Intern!
Hi, I'm Shierly!
My name is Shierly Mayasari and I am currently a junior pursuing a degree in food science with an emphasis in food technology at UC Davis. I was born and spent my childhood growing up in Indonesia before moving to California to continue my education. At UC Davis, I participated in ICBG (International Cooperative Biodiversity Group) research project which includes three US universities (UC Davis, UC Berkeley, and UC San Francisco) and three prominent Indonesian institutions (Indonesian Institute of Science, Indonesian Ministry of Forestry, and Bandung Institute of Technology). I am also a member and involved in Alpha Zeta California Gamma. To apply the knowledge and skills that I learned in school, and to learn more about organic food industry, I decided to do summer internship at Living Tree Community Foods in Berkeley. It is a very good opportunity to learn and experience firsthand how organic and kosher foods are being processed, packaged, and distributed. In my free time, I enjoy shopping, travelling, photography, blogging, and exploring new cuisines.
