Dear Brothers and Sisters,
April is Calymirna Fig month at Living Tree Community. We are delighted to bring you these beautiful fruits and put them on sale. They are a triumph of California agriculture and are grown for you with love and devotion by family farmers. We've also put Hazelnuts on sale.
Our offering of new products includes Brazil nut butter. Instead of making this into a chocolatey concoction, as we've done in the past, we've decided to accentuate its original flavors. We've taken out the chocolate and carob to make more room for the Brazil nuts to speak for themselves.
Then there is Acai Powder from the rain forests of the Amazonia. A powerful antioxidant with a rich, meaty flavor. We invite you to compare our prices.
Organic vanilla powder is here. While vanilla powder has been available for some time, organic vanilla powder has only recently become available. We've packaged it elegantly in glass jars.
In addition, we are continuing our April sale of tahini, sunflower butter, chia seed butter and pistachio pesto.
We mention also our internship program and have included a number of new and provocative articles on the World Mind.
Many of us feel that there was something profoundly wrongheaded about the recent healthcare legislation. As Mike Adams, a tireless advocate of health and healing says, the legislation that was just passed is focused entirely on how to expand the failed system of drugs and injections so that it causes harm to everyone rather than just those who voluntarily choose to be suckered into it.
The aspect of the legislation we wish to discuss here is the "individual mandate" requirement that almost every US citizen must buy government approved health insurance. Failure to comply will be punished with an annual tax penalty that by 2016 will raise to $750 or 2% of income, whichever is higher. Many see this as an unprecedented exercise of state power. Never before has Congress required people to buy private insurance or any private product. What a compelling concept! Why stop there, we ask? Why not require all Americans to buy GM cars? Think of the jobs that would create! After all... What's good fo General Motors is good for America...
Make no mistake, the compulsory insurance is a tax upon healthy Americans to pay the medical expenses of those Americans who are unhealthy.
With all of us economizing as much as we can, who needs an additional tax? Isn't it difficult enough to maintain vibrant health in a polluted world? After all, you have devoted effort and energy to healing yourself. You have spent much time in cleansing and transitioning to a live food diet- the hours in farmer's markets and on the aisles of natural food stores or maybe tilling a garden plot in your backyard or community garden. Then there is your labor in sprouting and dehydrating and even growing trays of wheat grass. What a colossal expenditure of money and effort you have made. It's likely that you will not use health insurance very often, if ever. Who would have believed that they would impose a tax on being healthy?! We suppose this is the meaning of "change you can believe in".
It doesn't compute, it doesn't make sense. Instead of taxing you, the government ought to reward and support your efforts. After all, not only have you healed yourself, but you have set an example for your fellow Americans. Is it any wonder then, that so many of us feel left out and disenfranchised?
There are many other sources of revenue that could be tapped instead of placing an extra burden upon Americans who are genuinely concerned with their health and are doing something about it.
When we partake of live foods we are making a start, a beginning of saying yes! to life in everything we do. Instead of listening, they have sidetracked you. The so-called healthcare legislation has nothing to do with healing or with truly vibrant health. That is why you who affirm life in the food you eat have got to bring that realization from your kitchen to the sorely needed re-birthing of this American ethos.

April
is Calymirna Fig Month at Living Tree
Organic and Sun Dried - On Sale! |
| Calymirna Figs
are the glory of California agriculture. Grown to perfection
by family farmers in the wonderous fertile Central Valley.
They are the ne plus ultra of figs. It is our
delight to bring them to you. Calymirna figs are a high
energy, nutritious fruit high in vitamins, calcium, phophorous
and iron. They are easily digested and are an excellent
source of natural fiber. One large dried fig contains
about 65 calories. |
|
The
Food of the Primordial |
| Fig cultivation predates cereal
domestication. The remains of edible figs have been discovered
in archeological sites of the Jordan Valley that date
back 11,400 years. The presence of figs in ancient settlements
indicates that people recognized these trees and propagated
them by planting branches. Evidence of such activity may
mark one of the earliest forms of agriculture. Fig trees
could have been the first domesticated plant of the Neolithic
Revolution, which preceded cereal domestication by about
1,000 years. |
| Rejoice
with Hazelnuts - On Sale! |
|
Hazelnuts
are valued for their pleasant flavor but did you know
they are one of the most nutritious nuts? Hazelnuts
are a rich source of dietary fiber, vitamin E, magnesium,
and heart healthy B vitamins.
Rich in Antioxidants & Disease-Fighting
Nutrients
Not only are hazelnuts a high-quality source of protein
and fiber, they also contain a variety of antioxidants
such as vitamin E and a host of phytonutrients that
benefit the immune system. Hazelnuts are a rich source
of nutrients that have cardioprotective benefits. These
nutrients include arginine, an amino acid that relaxes
blood vessels, folate and heart healthy B vitamins.
In fact, hazelnuts have the highest concentration of
folate among tree nuts. Folate reduces the risk of neural
tube birth defects, and may help to reduce the risk
of cardiovascular disease, certain cancers, Alzheimer¹s
disease and depression. Hazelnuts also contain the blood
pressure-lowering minerals calcium, magnesium and potassium.
Additional research linking nuts to reduced cancer risk
has also shown that the amino acid arginine may inhibit
tumor growth and boost immunity.
An excellent source of energy and a good provider of
unsaturated fats or "good fats".

Organic Vanilla Powder |
|
Certified organic
vanilla powder has only just become available.
Vanilla powder is made by pulverizing the whole dried
beans to a fine powder. Vanilla powder is well suited
to incorporation into liquid-sensitive mixtures, such
as some icings and melted chocolate, where even a small
amount of liquid could create a problem; and into raw
mixtures in which vanilla beans would not have a chance
to impart their flavor evenly and thoroughly. In addition,
the flavor of vanilla powder is more intense than that
of most extracts and does not dissipate even with prolonged
cooking. Vanilla powder will keep indefinitely, stored
in an opaque, airtight container in a cool, dry place.
Intensely vanilla, it takes over 220 vanilla beans
to make a pound of vanilla powder. Bliss out with a
mix of vanilla, raw carob and mesquite powder; sprinkle
on everything you eat.

| Our internships
are primarily for those considering a career in the organic
food industry. We offer first hand experience in sales,
marketing, administration and production. You'll have
an opportunity to do things like contacting buyers in
natural food stores, making almond butter and creating
Black Sesame Chocolate Truffles! At the same time, we
will introduce you to our Living Tree approach to live
food and physical fitness, intellectual inquiry and contemplation.
As we see it, vigorous daily exercise is an inseparable
part of a live food diet, inquiry is part of our responsibility
to understand the world in which we live and contemplation
helps to bring it all together. For details, visit Our
Way.
Your resources will include the research libraries
at the nearby University of California- a treasure trove
for early California history. What better place could
there be for contemplation than Yosemite National Park,
"the incomparable valley" as John Muir put
it and one of the most inspiring places on earth. Furthermore,
the Bay Area is the dance capital of the world, just
the place to work on your mind-body connection.
Most important, at Living Tree Community, you'll find
supportive brothers and sisters who will encourage you
in your evolution. You'll be treated with kindness and
respect. |
